For almost 10 years we helped CTK Community Church with start ups. We moved to Austin in 2008, burned out, broken, and not the least bit interested in starting a new ministry. Our dear friend and mentor, Dave Browning (lead pastor at CTK), has been very sensitive to support us in our search for a home church here in Austin ... while also nudging us to get rolling on bringing what we learned in Washington State to Texas.
We have started small groups here in the past, and toyed with the idea of starting a local CTK. We even had a local, young, pastor on board who led a very nice Ash Wednesday service at a pizza place... then moved to Indonesia. So we went back to the drawing board, trying new churches.
I talked to Dave again last night, asking for guidance and counsel as to how to be happy with the churches here - I mean, they are awesome! So well put together, well run, sweet, pretty, funky, fun - something for everyone. I just couldn't figure out why I can't seem to get my act together and be happy sitting in church on Sundays.
He gave me solid advice (the same advice he's given probably 20 times since we've moved here). Look for something "good enough," or start something.
We are still trying out churches. AND WE ARE praying that if it's God's will to start something in Austin, he pour people on us who are interested in what we are interested - who would love to worship how we like to worship.
Good News
The good news is that since we are hanging everything out - way out there, and are not great at this, God gets all the glory.
What we need are skilled people attracted to the vision.
